A rather scenic and rare undisturbed pristine environment in central Florida that begins in a swamp, eventually coursing its way as a narrow stream to gradually broaden downstream on its way towards the Atlantic coast.
The connected aquatic habitats steadily change from a typical freshwater hardwood forest to freshwater marsh to mangrove shorelines and salt marshes in a classic estuarine ecosystem; as well as vast nesting areas for great birds to paint such as the Snowy Egret, American Oyster Catcher, the Yellow-Crowned Night Heron, the Florida Sandhill Crane, a variety of raptors, Red-Cockaded Woodpeckers, and the endangered wood stork.
